Mike Powell/Digital VisionAs Central Oregon heads into the season of boating and floating, experts say rule No.1 of water safety is to wear a life jacket.

Each Coastal store — including its Redmond location — will give away 300 life jackets for kids up to 12 years of age on Saturday.

The life jackets are free to all, while supplies last. The giveaway will take place in the coastal parking lot, 3141 SW Highway 97, on June 22 at 11 a.m. This is a first come, first served event. While children aren’t required to be in attendance, life jackets are best when fitted to each child.

“We want our communities to live and love the outdoor lifestyle and be safe while doing it,” said to Country Supplier COO Mandi Dye, in a release. “We have had employees with personal experiences of loved ones drowning in lakes and rivers, which is something we don’t want anyone else to experience.”

Across the region, Coastal will give away 6,000 kids life jackets.
