If you hear a few more vrooms than usual in Redmond this week, its likely because of the BMW rally this weekend at the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center.

The 2024 BMW Motorcycle Owners of America National Rally is being held at the fairgrounds through Saturday. The event brings together more than 6,000 motorcycle enthusiasts from across the nation for a weekend of camaraderie and adventure.

Many of the riders drove across the country to meet in Redmond. While here, attendees will explore the latest in motorcycle gear, accessories and technology.

One of the presenters is Mary Lou Dobbs, who at age 75 decided to take up a motorcycle trip across Southeast Asia. Dobbs wrote a book, “Badass Old White Woman,” about the adventure and how empowering motorcycles made her feel.

Other riders or the general public are welcome to attend national rally events. Attendees can meet fellow enthusiasts, learn about new products, participate in guided rides, get riding skill instruction, enjoy live entertainment and food.

The BMWMOA was founded 1972 to promote safe and enjoyable riding experiences. It has more than 30,000 members worldwide. The National Rally is the biggest event for the year for the club.

Author Mary Loud Dobbs will speak about her book and travels on motorcycle through Asia from 2:15-3:15 p.m. on Saturday, June 15 in the North Sister/Haystack Room at the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center.
