Twelfth Night

Redmond High School Theatre Company will produce Shakespeare’s timeless comedy, Twelfth Night, reimagined within a music festival that is dedicated to the spirit of the 1960s folk revival movement.

The production will run from May 1-5, with evening performances at 7 p.m. on Wednesday through Saturday and matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5.

Directed by Hilda Beltran Wagner, with technical direction from Justin Tilton, this fresh interpretation of Twelfth Night transports audiences to a music festival created by a Woodstock-obsessed producer.

Infused with modern language and set against a backdrop of acoustic melodies and familiar folk-rock tunes, the production promises to captivate audiences of all ages with its blend of Shakespearean wit and late 20th century vibes.

“By setting the play in a music festival, we aim to create an immersive experience that celebrates the timelessness of Shakespeare’s work while inviting audiences to connect with the characters and themes in a modern context,” said Beltran in a release.

Twelfth Night tells the tale of mistaken identity, unrequited love, and the antics of a colorful cast of characters, including the “shipwrecked” Viola (in this version, her campervan got a flat on the way into the festival), the lovesick Duke Orsino (the festival’s visionary, Woodstock-obsessed producer), the pompous bureaucrat Malvolio, and the witty servant Maria (here, a body guard with a soft spot for astrology).

The production, adapted by Jon Jory with additional material from Beltran and the RHTC ensemble, promises a theatrical experience for theatergoers of all tastes.
