Purses and more to help raise money for victims of domestic violence

- The High Desert Music Hall will host a variety of events this week, including a writers reading event on Thursday, a comedy show Friday, Neighbors 4 Redmond meeting Sunday and vegan potluck Wednesday.
The Redmond chapter of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs will host its largest fundraiser on the year on April 13.

The GWFC of Central Oregon is sponsoring an evening titled “Wine, Women and Purses … and Toys for Boys Too.”
Purses and gifts donated by community members, business and local organizations are organized and placed in fashionable hand bags, tool belts and purses and then are auctioned off to attendees. According to Joann Wheeler and Kathy Rafish of GFWC, there will be both a live and silent auction at the event while hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be provided.
Dozens of local individuals and businesses have donated to the fundraiser. Major auction items include a week stay at an Oregon Coast condo, original paintings and fused glass art, Redmond Community Concert Association season tickets, a round of golf for four at Meadow Lakes and more. Maragas Winery and Faith Hope & Charity Vineyards are both wine sponsors. The Hen’s Tooth donated centerpieces that will be auctioned off as well.

All money raised will be split evenly and donated to local nonprofits Saving Grace and Voices Against Trafficking. Both support survivors of intimate partner violence.
The event is at 6:30 p.m. on Sat., April 13 at High Desert Music Hall, 818 SW Forest Ave. Tickets are $20 and include appetizers, beer and wine.
Sponsors are still being sought for donations of auction items or food and beverages to be served at the event.
