In brief
Sports champions get parade: The state champion Redmond High boys tennis and Ridgeview girls golf teams, as well as individual golf champion Isaac Buerger of Ridgeview, will get their own parade through downtown Redmond, starting at 5 p.m. Thursday. According to an email from Police Chief Dave Tarbet, the parade starts at the corner of NW Sixth Street and Birch Avenue, and will move south down Sixth to SW Glacier Avenue, where it will turn west toward Redmond High. Tarbet wrote that the fire truck escorting the vehicles has a control device that changes traffic signals green, preventing the need for road closures. He wrote that no disruption to normal traffic flow is expected.
Little sports stars: For ages 3-5. Learn the basics in sports, with fun the No. 1 goal. The soccer session is 1-1:30 p.m. Thursdays from June 6-20 at the RAPRD Activity Center. The cost is $21. Call 541-548-7275 or visit raprd.org for more information.
Beginning Kendo: For ages 12 and up. Beginning Japanese fencing, or Kendo, is taught by Ryan Atagi, a fifth degree black belt in the sport. Classes are from 6-8 p.m. Thursdays from June 6-27 at the RAPRD Activity Center. The cost is $50, which includes a bamboo sword.
