BRIGHT SIDE COLUMN: Marching into Redmond’s future

Published 1:17 pm Thursday, March 28, 2024

The weather has been cold, but as long as we are warm that is all that counts.

So much is going on in March: Daylight Savings time, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter and so much more.

I decided to focus on Redmond’s city hall. It’s so beautiful. I have a great friend who has lived here a long time. His family moved to Redmond in 1962. His father got a job here building the Round Butte Dam.

Byron Legg started in the fifth grade at John Tuck Elementary and his sister and brother started at Jessie Hill School, which became the old library in Redmond. Byron went to Redmond High in 1966 and he graduated in 1970.

“We were the last class to graduate from Evergreen High School, now it is the new city hall,” Byron told me. “Evergreen High was built in 1920.”

Byron told me more about early Redmond, how it was named for Frank T. and Josephine Redmond and was incorporated around 1910. Byron also told me the population was around 11,000 in 1970 and now it is more than 38,000. No wonder it feels so big!

Enjoy happiness, health, love, friendship and laughter for the month of March. See all of you in the newspaper!
