Fire heavily damaged a home east of Redmond and Terrebonne on March 6.

No one was injured, but the home was heavily damaged and is no longer habitable.

Redmond Fire & Rescue crews were dispatched to a reported blaze at 4725 NE O’Neil Highway about 10:30 a.m. on March 6. According to emergency responders “a large column of smoke was visible from a distance” as crews drove to the scene.

Once there, crews saw significant active fire and worked to keep it from spreading into surrounding vegetation.

Since there are no fire hydrants in the area, tenders were used to bring in water to help control and extinguish the fire.

Due to the close proximity to Oneil Highway, Oregon Department of Transportation provided traffic control while fire crews were on scene. Traffic was minimally impacted.

Investigators examined the fire scene and interviewed witnesses, but as of press time March 12 the cause and origin of the fire was unknown.
