A Madras motel was heavily damaged by fire Oct. 6.

Jefferson County Fire & EMS and Redmond Fire & Rescue responded about 7:45 a.m. to the Brush Lane Apartments, located just off Highway 97.

Firefighters found an active fire with heavy smoke in the back of the apartment. The occupants of that apartment, and those adjacent, were evacuated.

Three engines, two medics, five volunteers and seven staff responded to the call. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. 

Those affected are being assisted by the American Red Cross and Best Care Services, as well as the property management company.
