Bend man charged with DUII after crashing into Terrebonne pond

- A vehicle crashed into a pond near Smith Rock State Park in Terrebonne on August 26 after complaints of reckless driving.
A Bend man was uninjured after flipping his car and ending up in a pond near Smith Rock State Park on Monday.

Jacob Lecense, 34, was rescued from the waterlogged vehicle and charged with DUII, reckless driving and criminal mischief.
According to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, numerous complaints came in around 3:45 p.m. Monday about an erratic driver on U.S. Highway 97. Callers said a silver SUV was traveling between lanes, nearly struck other vehicles and could not maintain its own lane of travel.
A deputy located the vehicle northbound on Highway 97 just south of Terrebonne and attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle did not stop and deputies lost contact.

About 20 minutes later, however, police received calls about a crash that occurred in the 2000 block of Wilcox Ave, near Smith Rock State Park. Callers said a vehicle had left the roadway, flipped and came to rest in a nearby cattle pond. The driver was stuck in the vehicle, but it the pond was not deep enough to submerge the car.
Deputies arrived on scene and helped Lecense, who appeared uninjured, out of the vehicle. He was transferred to St. Charles Redmond as a precaution.
After Lecense was treated and released, he was taken to jail.
