The public members can fill out a survey to help choose the center’s name. Respodents can choose between three names suggested by the recreation district or suggest their own.
The three names up for consideration currently are Redmond Oregon Community Center, Redmond Regional Recreation Center and Sagebrush Community Center. Surveyors can also choose “None of the above.” If people have another name they want RAPRD to consider, there is a space where surveyors can write in an idea.
“We want to have public involvement with helping us decide a name to ensure that the center’s name resonates with the people it will serve,” said Katie Hammer, RAPRD’s executive director.

Marnae Powell likes Redmond Community Center as a name option.
“We don’t have one, we need one, and this is it! Describes perfectly what you can do there. A little of everything! It’s going to be so great and it’s been needed for so long! I’m excited to teach fitness there, lift weights, use the sports facilities, take other classes of all sorts, swim,” Powell commented on RAPRD’s Facebook post about the survey.
Mary Schlachter is suggesting the center name it after George Endicott as she said “he was a beloved person who was a veteran.”
Endicott was mayor of Redmond for 14 years from 2009 to 2023.
According to Hammer, the name choices will be presented at the October or November board meeting. The deadline to complete the survey is Sept. 27. By Sept. 10, Hammer said there had been more than 50 responses so far.
