An early celebration of October, beers and rock n’ roll comes to Redmond Sept. 21 for a free family-friendly event.
The 16th annual Redmond Kiwanis R’Oktoberfest Celebration will take place that Saturday at Wild Ride Brewing from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. There will be games, live music, beer and cider tasting and activities for kids.
“The Kiwanis version is heavier on the rock and local fare and still slightly inspired by the cuisine and beverages compared to the original style of Oktoberfest, hence the name R’Oktoberfest,” said Barb Lutz, Kiwanis secretary in the press release.
Adult games, grain tossing and stein hosting, will take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Throughout the day, games for children, such as an obstacle course, hoop shooting and corn hole, will be present throughout the day.
Kids will also have access to face painting, balloon sculptures and a music station to try out different instruments. Additionally, three children’s bikes will be raffled off with one ticket for each child in the family.
There will be a Wheel of gLUCK, meaning luck in German, to win prizes. Participants must pay $5 to spin the wheel. The minimum value of a prize is $5 and everyone is guaranteed to win.
All proceeds from the event will go to Central Oregon Force, who will coordinate the children’s activities. Central Oregon Force is a non-profit organization designed to help first to eighth grade girls a chance to develop their basketball skills and learn character-based life skills through sports.
Live music will take place throughout the night, with the first band, Derek Michael Marc, playing from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The second band, Sleepless Truckers, will play from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
