It was a tough week for Redmond area basketball teams as both the Redmond girls and Ridgeview boys went 0-3 in out-of-state basketball tournaments.
Ridgeview entered the Centennial Tournament at the College of Idaho in Caldwell, Idaho, as the lone undefeated boys team in Oregon’s Class 5A, but the Ravens lost 57-49 in overtime to Pocatello (Idaho) on Dec. 31. Garrett Albrecht scored 23 points in the loss, while George Mendazona scored 15.
The Ravens followed with a 69-51 loss to Ambrose (Idaho) on Jan. 1 and a 72-63 defeat to Middleton (Idaho) on Jan. 2. Mendazona scored 24 points and hit six 3-pointers during the Jan. 2 loss.
The Redmond girls opened their trip to the KSA Holiday Events Tournament in Orlando, Florida, with a 54-33 loss to Eau Gaille (Florida) on Dec. 28 but played a much closer game against Pleasanton (Texas) on Dec. 30, eventually losing 34-31 in double overtime. McKaylie Capps scored 22 points for the Panthers.
Redmond ended the tournament with a 47-22 loss to Walker (Alabama).
The Ridgeview boys open their Intermountain Conference play at home against Bend at 7 p.m. Friday, and the Redmond girls host Sisters at 5:45 p.m. on Friday.
