Safe Sidewalk Award nominations sought: The Deschutes County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee is seeking nominations of businesses, individuals and organizations that make an extra effort to keep their sidewalks safe by clearing debris and hazards. Dean Hale Woodpecker Festival approaching: The Dean Hale Woodpecker Festival in Sisters will run May 30-June 2 and offer guided tours searching for 11 species of woodpeckers and other birds, in areas where recent burns have attracted a concentration of birds. Registration opens Monday. The tours go to places such as Three Creeks, Pole Creek, Cold Springs and other known birding areas. Redmond students named to Washington State honor roll: Annie Footman and Bradi Marie Wood, both of Redmond, were named to the fall 2018 President’s Honor Roll at Washington State University in Pullman. The achievement requires a grade-point-average of at least 3.75 for students taking at least 9 graded credits or a grade-point-average of 3.5 for students taking at least 15 graded credits.

Redmond student named to OKC University honor roll: Avery Carlson, of Redmond, was named to fall 2018 President’s Honor Roll at Oklahoma City University. The achievement requires a grade-point-average of at least 3.9 for students taking at least 12 graded credits.
