teen stabbed on Hope playground: Four teenage boys were playing tag at Hope Playground in Sam Johnson Park in Redmond when three people wearing bandannas over their faces used brass knuckles and a box cutter to assault a 16-year-old and stab a 15-year-old, who was later taken to St. Charles Redmond, police said. Police have charged with assault, unlawful use of a weapon and disorderly conduct two of the three suspects — Isaiah Laack and Noah Huber, both 18, of Redmond. A third person was identified as a Bend 15-year-old. who also was charged with assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and disorderly conduct. Police say the suspects wearing bandannas did not know the four teens.
Redmond police seeking information on motorcyclist: Redmond Police are asking for the public’s help in finding a motorcyclist last seen speeding through Redmond on NW Greenwood Avenue at 2:45 p.m. Nov. 9. A Redmond Police detective had been following behind the motorcyclist from Crooked River Ranch, but decided to attempt to stop the cyclist in the city with the help of a marked police car. The motorcyclist saw the police car and sped away, running several red lights. The motorcycle is described by police as having purple wheels with a purple frame, a white colored license plate and no front fairing, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call the department at 541-693-6911.
fire destroys motorhome in redmond: Firefighters put out a fire inside a motorhome that was being used as a residence and that extended to other buildings on a neighboring property in the 100 block of SE Jackson Street at 11:22 p.m. Nov. 29. The fire caused an estimated $25,000 in damages and the cause is still under investigation. No one was injured in the fire, but the American Red Cross aided the homeowner with temporary housing, food, clothing and a comfort kit.
citizens academy accepting applications: The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for the 10-week 2018 citizen’s academy. Classes will be every Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. from Feb. 7 through April 18. The deadline to apply is Jan. 12. Anyone interested can pick up an application at the main Sheriff’s Office in Bend at 63333 W. U.S. Highway 20. ginger bread house contest: The Redmond Chamber of Commerce will host its Fifth Annual Ginger Bread Contest at the Urban on Sixth Building, next to Herringbone Books on Saturday. A panel of judges will award ribbons at 3 p.m. Saturday for first, second and third place entries in various categories. Winning gingerbread houses will be on display at various businesses during the holiday season. Entry forms must be submitted by Wednesday and submitted to the chamber’s office, 446 SW Seventh St., Redmond. or by calling 541-923-5191.

Redmond, Ridgeview to receive grant: Central Oregon Community College is the recipient of a two-year $175,000 Meyer Memorial Trust’s Equitable Education grant that targets Latino high school students become college ready. The Latino college Preparation Program, Avanza, mentors and provides resources to several Central Oregon schools, including Redmond and Ridgeview highs. The program enables students to earn one hour of transferable college credit for each Avanza course completed. Money will be used to continue and build upon high school partnerships and summer symposiums under the stewardship of college’s Office of Multicultural Activities.
