Letter: Harmon valuable on parks board

I have served on the board of RAPRD for several years and currently preside as the board’s chairman. Throughout my terms, Zack Harmon has served alongside me and played a primary role on the board. While everyone on the board, as well as all of the candidates running for positions this year, have good intentions, I strongly believe it is important that we re-elect Zack to another term. Zack is a CPA and his knowledge of accounting and numbers is something that we need on this Board of Directors.

Believe me, it can be overwhelming to look at municipal budgets line by line, but he seems to relish the opportunities. He is the first to find any potential issues or errors and often has great ways of explaining things in layman’s terms and offering solutions to fix them. He makes his presence known at all of our early morning meetings and is able to understand the accounting side of the organization better than anyone currently serving or seeking election. In Zack’s time on the Board, RAPRD has always been on budget and completely transparent with our books. I don’t think it is a coincidence that having a CPA on the board helps us stay accountable to our taxpayers.

In addition to his knowledge and dedication, Zack has children in the RAPRD system that have grown up on RAPRD activities. They have participated in the sports and non-sports program offerings and his feedback has been instrumental in meetings and future planning. Zack also played an important role in campaigning for the successful bond initiative that passed in November bringing a much needed rec center to this town. Being an active parent in the community, having children currently enrolled in our activities and being a CPA (or as I call him — a professional numbers guy) all make Zack the most qualified candidate and deserving of another term.
