Redmond will soon be a ‘two Schwab town’ as construction begins on new tire shop

A new Les Schwab Tire Center will be built in Redmond east of U.S. Highway 97, roughly across from Safeway near the highway’s intersection with SW Pumice Ave.

The new automative center hopes to open by summer 2024.

Sean Cook, principal planner at the city of Redmond, confirmed the details of the new business on Sept. 1. The new store will not replace the original Redmond location on the north side of town at 845 NW 6th Street, just to keep up with the growth in business in the fast-expanding city.

“We are now a 2 Schwab town,” Cook said in an email.

Dale Thompson, chief marketing officer for Les Schwab Tire Centers, said the new store is expected to be complete by May or June 2024.

The plan is for it to be bit smaller than the Les Schwab on the north side of Redmond. Construction — and deconstruction — is already underway.

“This will be a nine-bay retail store mainly, so it will not be as big as the store on the north side of Redmond,” Thompson said. “There are two businesses that have already been vacated and those buildings will be taken down in the next few months to put this new store in.”

Thompson said Les Schwab, which is still based in Bend, is eager to continue expanding in its home region.

“We are really excited to grow along with the community in Central Oregon,” Thompson said. “We continue to always look at opportunities to expand especially in markets where we are well known and we have an opportunity to take a customer base and expand with it.”
