Redmond grad sentenced for Klamath County murder

Hailie Harkins, a graduate of Redmond High School and longtime Redmond resident, was sentenced to up to life in prison Aug. 22 for killing a man and shooting two others in Chiloquin.
According to court records, Harkins pleaded guilty to the crime on Aug 18. Harkins received the mandatory minimum sentence of at least 25 years in prison and up to a lifetime sentence.
Harkins shot and killed Tyler Bates and shot and injured two others on Aug. 7, 2022.
“Ms. Harkins fired multiple gunshots into Mr. Bates — some after he was on the ground — killing him outside his house with members of his family inside while also injuring two other victims,”said Oregon Department of Justice, Senior Assistant Attorney General John Casalino, who prosecuted this case. “Ms. Harkins’ violent intentional conduct has caused this community and particularly this family to suffer a deep and lasting loss.”
Harkins had been held without bail since Dec. 16, 2022.
While Klamath County operates without a district attoney, its office is being managed by Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum, through Senior Assistant Attorney General Casalino of the Oregon Department of Justice.
