A lottery has opened for income-qualified residents interested in purchasing homes at below-market rates as part of the Rooted at 19th development.

The lottery will be open until May 15.

“With the launch of our first Redmond community, RootedHomes is opening the door to a future where more Central Oregon families can truly call this place home,” said Tess Spellacy, homeownership program director for Rooted Homes.

Rooted at 19th is located at 345 NW 19th Street in Redmond, just north of Redmond High School. It includes different types of homes, including 11 two-bedroom and 11 three-bedroom residences that are both duplexes and triplexes. The development also includes a newly renovated 100-year-old, four-bedroom farmhouse.

The two and three-bedroom homes are available to buyers earning below 80% of the Deschutes County average income, while the farmhouse is offered to those earning over 80% income level. All new construction homes feature rooftop solar, passive energy-saving designs and come fully equipped with appliances, including a washer and dryer.

The development also includes a community garden, providing residents access to fresh produce and education opportunities through a School to Garden program.

The homes are priced considerably below current market rates. The cost of the two-bedroom home is $258,000 and the three-bedroom homes are $293,000. The four-bedroom farmhouse is priced at $380,000.

To further support homebuyers needing financial assistance, $18,000 in down payment assistance is available per household.  RootedHomes also offers a preference point to any veteran who applies.

Income-qualified applicants who have completed a mandatory information session and obtained mortgage preapproval can apply through the RootedHomes website. For more information, rootedhomes.org/communities/redmond.
