Hot air balloons will light up the night sky on Saturday at the Redmond Brewfest and Night Glow.

Redmond residents will get a chance to check out balloons and brews on Saturday night.

Redmond Brewfest and Night Glow will take place 5-10 p.m. on July 27 at American Legion Park, at the south end of Dry Canyon.  The event is free and open to anyone.

The brewfest will feature local beer and cider, food trucks from savory to sweet, product and craft vendors, and live music from The Substitutes. There will also be a visually breathtaking backdrop of  balloons.

When the sun sets, the hot air balloon night glow show will start, dazzling visitors with “something so simple and yet captivating,” said Amanda Luelling, Redmond Chamber of Commerce & CVB events director.

Local breweries and cideries taking part in include Wild Ride, Initiative, Cascade Lakes, Bend Cider Co., and Tumalo Cider.

While the adults can taste test some beveraes, young ones can enjoy bounce houses, face painting and “the park has a really fun play area as well,” said Luelling.

The festival will have a variety of food trucks includin The Corndog Company, Tall Boy Fish n’ Chips, Bobablastic, All Elements Catering, Lulu’s Sno Shack, Sub-Zero Products, Kona Ice and Kook’i.

Crafts vendors will be featured at the festival as well, including Brim Bar Pacific Northwest, Dug Deep Jewelry, All About You Permanent Jewelry, Shoot the Cancer Target, Redmond High School Cheerleading and more.

VIP tickets can be purchased for catering and private viewing areas for the balloon show. An event cup, drink tokens and Visit Redmond goodie bag is included. One VIP ticket can be bought online for $90 or two for $150.

Luelling said this is the chamber’s biggest fundraising event of the year, raising funds for events like the Fourth of July and Christmas parades, downtown Halloween trick-or-treat and more.

According to Luelling, the chamber expects 1,500 people to attend, a similar amount as last year when the event was at the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center.

The event started in 2016 and this year, the chamber decided to host it at American Legion Park. Luelling said moving it to Redmond’s canyon park system may allow it to expand in the future.

“My pie in the sky plan for this event would have it be a full canyon event and balloons through our canyon trail system,” she said. “People can pick parks to go to see the balloons (and) walk the canyon path while they are glowing.”

They will have three balloons at this year’s event.

“It’s not often that you have the opportunity to get this close to a hot air balloon and it’s gorgeous when they glow at night and you can see them all together,” Luelling said.
