It is with great sadness that the family of Deryl Ferguson, born August 10, 1941 announce his passing in his home with his family by his side in Redmond on January 28, 2025.
Deryl was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota. His family moved to Redmond in 1946. He was raised in Redmond, active in football, track and basketball and graduated from Redmond High School in 1959. After graduation, he moved to Portland where he worked for The Oregonian. He married Johanna (Jopie) Visser in 1961. In 1968, he moved back to Redmond with his wife Johanna and 3 daughters to raise his family in Central Oregon.
He worked for Kilgore Dairy until he and Jopie bought Terrebonne Market in 1971. He is preceded in death by Jopie, his mother and father, Neva & Glenn Ferguson, as well as his brother, Eugene Ferguson and his sister, Judith Gilbertson. His loving spirit is carried on by his wife Kathy whom he married June 22, 2002, his daughters, Alida, Linda and Tonya, his brother Roger, 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, playing cards, the great outdoors and real estate developing and investing. He enjoyed hosting his high school class reunions many summers during fair time and enjoyed being around people. Most of all, his friends and family were of utmost importance to him. A friend to Dad was a stranger he had yet to meet. He led a life full of humor and entrepreneurship and is a guiding star for all who knew him. Deryl was involved in numerous businesses and community activities in the Central Oregon area. He assisted in the organization of the Volunteer Fire Department in Terrebonne in 1974. In 1979, he was one of the founders and directors of Northwest Savings and Loan which was subsequently sold. To commemorate his remarkable life and the memories we cherish, A celebration of life will be held in his honor at 3pm on Thursday, February 13 at Redmond Community Presbyterian Church. A reception at Otto’s Landing in Redmond will follow; all are welcome.
