Redmond beats Baker in third-place game at Crook County tournament

The Baker girls basketball team lost its second straight game, falling 63-31 to Class 5A Redmond on Saturday morning, Dec. 7, in the third-place game at the Crook County Tip Off tournament in Prineville.
It was Baker’s fourth game in four days to start the season.
Baker opened the tournament by beating Seaside 51-45 on Thursday. Baker then lost 59-50 to Crook County in a semifinal game Friday.
First quarter
Redmond scored the first six points, on consecutive 3-pointers by Maisen Porter, then the Panthers took advantage of their fullcourt press and inside game. Redmond led 12-2 and then scored eight straight en route to a 25-5 lead after the first quarter. The press forced several turnovers leading to layins for the Panthers.
Second quarter
Baker continued to struggle to get shots to fall, making just two field goals in the quarter.
Redmond’s offense cooled a bit, although the Panthers extended the lead to 36-12 at halftime.
Third quarter
Baker doubled its first half scoring output in the first five minutes, as Emy Myer swished a three-pointer. But Redmond kept pace, keeping its lead above 20 points.
Baker, 2-2 on the season, returns home for a nonleague game against Vale at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
