Letter: Poor parental sportsmanship after Redmond, Ridgeview game
Published 3:15 pm Monday, November 4, 2024
To the Redmond High parent who chose to spit upon the Reece Rollins memorial following the Ridgeview-Redmond football game on Nov 1: Have you no decency?
Imagine your son had died and Redmond High School chose to honor him and put up a memorial. How would you feel to have someone spit on it? This is the second time this season this has happened (the first was courtesy of a Summit player). Ridgeview players have taken to “guarding” the marker after games. Is this what Redmond is now?
Unfortunately, we’ve seen political leaders show an absolute lack of decency. Instead of calling them out on their behavior, some choose to defend, and even celebrate that behavior.
Is this what America is now, what Redmond is now? If so, there are a lot of people who need to do some soul searching.
By the way, if you didn’t know Reece, he was a kind and caring person who was a hard worker in school and on the field. He lost his life in an accident in 2018. Ridgeview chose to honor his decency as a human being by naming their field after him. There are a lot of people who should strive to be more like Reece.
