Redmond will once again be home to an arena football team as the brand-new Oregon Lightning are scheduled to join a new professional league.

The league, called Arena Football One, will compete in 2025.

Coach and part owner Chuck Jones will lead the Oregon Lightning, who will play their home games at the First Interstate Bank Center at the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center in Redmond. Sara Gumm and Jay Jenkins are part-owners as well, according to the league.

“I’ve seen Chuck’s dedication firsthand for over 20 years, and I’m excited to partner with these two on this incredible journey,” co-owner Sara Gumm says. “Together, we’re committed to the Oregon Lightning team and plan to light up the in-game experience in Central Oregon.”

AF1 Commissioner Jeff Fisher said “the hometown and homegrown roots of their organization will bring the passion and excitement of Friday Night Lights to the professional arena stage.”

More information about the schedule and the team will be available before the 2025 season.
