Letter: Immigration, not NIBMYism, hurting America

I’d like to respond to a recent opinion column titled “How NIMBYism is Strangling America.”

What is really strangling America is the approximately 10 million illegal immigrants that have crossed our border in the last three years. A belated border bill would have done little to stem the tide of illegals entering our country. I fear that NIMBYism will be NIMFYism (Not In My Front Yard) if we aren’t vigilant.

As for living the American dream, I own my own home, with a nice lawn and a couple of cars. Most of my wealth is tied up in my home and property and I’ll fight any government “environmental justice” that lowers the value of what I’ve worked for all of my life. I’d like to see an honest definition of what “environmental justice” is. I bet that it has little to do with the free enterprise, merit based and private property ownership ideals that our country was built on. In the interest of brevity I’ll stop there.
