Column: Redmond needs leadership that listens

Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to connect with many of you while knocking on doors across Redmond. From families and small business owners to retirees and young professionals, the message has been clear: Redmond needs leadership that listens, takes action, and delivers results. That’s why I’m running for city council — to provide the decisive, accountable leadership that our community deserves. Together, we can achieve responsible leadership and practical solutions for the issues we face.

Taking a firm stance on homelessness

Homelessness is a pressing issue in Redmond, and many of you are frustrated with the lack of progress. I am committed to addressing this issue with a strong, effective approach. We need to ensure our streets, public spaces, and forests are safe and clean while providing real support for those in need.

This involves taking decisive action to maintain safety and order. I will collaborate with local organizations to offer meaningful assistance but also enforce measures to keep our public areas secure and welcoming. My goal is to balance compassionate support with a firm commitment to community safety, ensuring Redmond remains a secure and inviting place for all.

Addressing affordable housing

Affordable housing is a significant concern. As Redmond grows, finding a home is becoming increasingly challenging for many families. My plan focuses on increasing the inventory of single-family homes and implementing practical measures to make housing more affordable.

We need to streamline the building process and create incentives for developers to build affordable, single-family homes that meet our community’s needs. By increasing the supply of homes and fostering responsible development, we can ensure that Redmond remains a place where working families can thrive.

Building a family-friendly economy

Families want an economy that supports them and reflects Redmond’s values. They want businesses that provide good jobs and contribute positively to our community. I share this vision and am committed to attracting businesses that align with these values. Instead of dispensaries or psilocybin facilities, we need businesses that enhance our community and foster a family-friendly economy.

My business degree from Oregon State University and experience as a successful business owner give me a unique perspective on how to drive economic growth. Additionally, my time as a former city of Redmond employee has provided me with insight into how policies affect both the community and city operations. Combining these experiences, I am dedicated to creating a local economy that supports families and preserves the unique character of our town.

Why I’m running

I’m running for city council because Redmond needs a leader who acts with integrity, listens to the community, and drives real change. My service in the Navy aboard the USS Nimitz and USS John C. Stennis taught me dedication and putting others first. I’ve applied these lessons in my career in wastewater management, running my own successful business, and working with the city in public service.

My diverse background provides me with a deep understanding of the challenges we face and the experience needed to address them effectively. I’m ready to bring fresh ideas, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to transparency and accountability to city council.

In the coming weeks, I look forward to knocking on your door and hearing your thoughts. Together, we can make Redmond a place where families, businesses, and our entire community can grow and thrive. Let’s work together to build the future Redmond deserves.
