We’ve got one more summer weekend before school starts up in Redmond.
If you’re out having fun this weekend, think back on all those scorching summer days earlier this year. Vegetation is dry and fire risk remains high. And while some of the rules have since relaxed, there are still restrictions on recreational fires throughout many Central Oregon lands.
Tuesday is about turning the calendar to the new school year. Different grades return on different days, but by the end of next week just about everyone still in school in Redmond will be back in the books. Check out what the Redmond School District was up to this past summer, and what they would like to tackle if a bond passes in November.
Speaking of November, the field is set for races for Redmond mayor and Redmond city council. The Redmond ballot will be thick not just with city races, but also with questions on marijuana and psilocybin. The Parks and Rec District will run an operations levy, and the school district that infrastructure bond. That’s not to mention a county sheriff’s race, a question on changing the number of county commissioners, and all the state races, too. Redmond is a major piece of one of the races that the U.S. House hinges on — Congressional District 5. And oh yeah, there’s that presidential race, too. Lots to discuss and read about. We’ll be helping lead some political discussion in forums on many of the major races.
And while the political season is about to hit full speed, there’s plenty of fun stuff to report on, too. Justin Homan and the Wild Ride riders hit full speed at last week’s jump show that towered over downtown. Former Spokesman publisher Carl Vertrees knows how to look at what’s important, like a well-functioning heart.
