A new food truck has set up shop in East Redmond, extending the local food scene.
Jonny’s Joint had its ribbon cutting ceremony on July 19, co-owned by mother and son LoriAnn and Jonny Kuhn. The duo uses fresh beef in their burger-forward menu and created their own homemade Siracha aioli sauce to top them.
Jonny’s Joint is parked permanently on First Street and open six days a week. The Kuhns cook up burgers, breakfast burritos, roasted veggie rice bowl, espresso drinks, pastries and more. The family cut the ribbon on their new shop on July 19, though they opened earlier in March.
“People are saying we have the best burgers in Redmond,” LoriAnn Kuhn said.
Jonny Kuhn, 20, was the inspiration behind the truck. He’s studying computer science online at Oregon State University and getting ready to travel to Italy later this summer. The youngest of four brothers, he’s the face of the operation. The food truck’s logo was hand-drawn, a cartoonish take on Jonny himself.
“It’s exciting,” Jonny Kuhn said. “It’s a new opportunity as well. It can take off in the future, which I hope it does.”
LoriAnn Kuhn said the grand opening brought a “great turnout,” of about 50 people. She said “being the queen of sandwich boards,” helped draw in customers with her unique signage.
Jonny’s father, Tom Kuhn, built the food truck for the family, including a built-in bathroom. The health inspector came and said she’d “never seen a cleaner trailer,” according to LoriAnn.
Pickleball players around in the area have been early supporters of the the business, LoriAnn Kuhn said. They were the ones who brought cornhole for customers to play while they wait. The Premier Pickleball Club is located nearby.
By the food truck, there are shaded tables with umbrellas for people to enjoy their juicy burgers out in the sun.
LoriAnn said their food truck stands out because of their fresh ingredients. Jonny’s offers a number of gluten-free options and much of their menu is safe for people with nut allergies.
“The only nuts on board are these crazy guys,” LoriAnn Kuhn said, gesturing to Tom and Jonny Kuhn.
Many other family members also help out with the business.
In the future, LoriAnn and Jonny Kuhn hope to expand and open more trucks. They also hope to become mobile so they can drive to different events. Until then, the family hopes to gain more awareness for their new establishment.
They are located at 2605 First St. in Redmond, open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day except Sunday. On Saturdays, the truck doesn’t open until at 8 a.m.
