BRIGHT SIDE COLUMN: June is for fathers

This is a very special month for fathers.

A lot of dad’s take their daughters and sons fishing, jogging, for games outside, good listening and so much more. Dads — most of them — love to barbecue. But the most important thing about them that we need to know: They love us.

Being raised on a ranch was different. I loved being with my dad. Haying was hard work, so was shearing our sheep. But I admired him a lot. He was my idol.

The most important things are not things, but the love our dads give us — especially when you do the things you love together. My dad was my hero. He never knew computers or texting. He knew hard physical and mental work.

But times have changed. Father’s Day is a special day to all of us. We all want to be like our dad.

He is an example to us. He takes the time to stay and hug us, be our friend. But not all dad’s are like this. We are all different. But just like our moms, you have to tell him how proud you are of him. No texting. Use your mouth.

When I think of fathers, I think of the idea that dads are “one who can take the place of others, but whose place no one else can take.”
