In Redmond, we vote for mayor and city council — but we don’t want them to stay too long in the job.
In the May 21 primary election, voters made that very clear. Roughly 78 percent of voters were in favor of limiting councilors to just two consecutive terms starting in 2025 and 63.8 percent approved of expanding the mayor’s term and limiting them to two consecutive terms. Also, 84 percent of voters approved a ban on close family members serving together on the council.
Phil Chang also easily outpaced his three rivals, gathering more than 50 percent of the vote and securing his re-election to Deschutes County Commission.
Redmond parks seem to be the talk of the town these days. The public has the opportunity on Thursday to make comments directly to the city, who is working on a parks master plan.
A couple of writers recently talked about the heavy use of Dry Canyon, and whats at stake for some of the city’s green jewels.
And speaking of parks, downtown’s Centennial Park will again be the host of the Redmond Farmers Market. Three sisters are bringing the market back to town after the previous market directors decided not to return.
You’ve got a few days to get your backyard/ag burns finished. The burn ban goes into effect June 1 in Redmond.
