John Fredrick Hodecker passed away in his sleep from complications from a stroke he had in April 2023.
John was born to Fred & Willetta Hodecker in Camas WA. His family moved to Redmond, OR when he was 5 years old. After graduating from Redmond Union High School he attended Oregon State University for 4 years during which time he met Lari Crimins. They married on January 1, 1956 in Milton-Freewater, OR and spent their first two years together living in Arizona while he was in the Army. Then they moved to Redmond where John worked for his Dad in the Hodecker Potato Warehouse and they owned Midstate Fertilizer. He has lived in Redmond since, except for wintering in Palm Desert for many years. John and Lari raised two children, Lynn & Greg who have spent many years living in Redmond as adults.
John was always active in the Redmond community and a member of the Community Presbyterian church, Redmond Jaycees, a bowling league, a softball team, Redmond Kiwanis and the National Association of Left-Handed Golfers. He was selected “Man of the Year” in 1960 and was the Redmond “Citizen of the Year” in 2004. John was very active at the Juniper Golf Club for many years until joining the men’s group at The Greens golf course. Over the years John & Lari traveled to cities around the world so John could play in International Left-Handed Golf tournaments. John is survived by his son & wife, Greg & Angela Hodecker, daughter & husband, Lynn & Tim Townsend; four grandchildren, April (Allen) Hutcheson, Jill (Gary) Auxier, Julia (Josh) Thomsen & Michael (Kelsey) Hodecker; and six great-grand children, Zachary & Lindsey Hutcheson, Rosco & Grant Auxier and Vahn & Bjorn Thomsen; and his sister, Joan Patterson.
John was preceded in death by his wife Lari in 2022 and infant son Charles in 1960.
A memorial service was held on March 15, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the Redmond Community Presbyterian Church. All attendees were invited to wear orange and black… Go Beavers! Memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of Redmond, 732 SW 23rd St., Redmond, OR 97756.
