A new high rise is growing, brick-by-brick, in southwest Redmond. You’ve probably noticed it when you drive by, so read about what’s coming — condos and coffee and gelato.

What are you up to this weekend?

There are multiple activities out at the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center this weekend, including the USA BMX Great Northwest Nationals underway since Friday.

Are you a collector at heart? Check out the Central Oregon Cards & Collectibles Show today. Redmond vendors like Rocky Morgan from Geek Geek Nerd Nerd will be there, along about 50 more vendors selling everything from baseball cards to comics, and from Hot Wheels to action figures.

This week’s paper centered on Tessy Moon and her ordeal in northwest Redmond, as the mother and her four children continue to battle the grim fact of being without shelter.

Fine reporter Anna Kaminski reported on the feeling of hopelessness that can beset people trying to get back on their feet.

Moon has been homeless for more than three years, and three of her children are now in foster care. Multiple times she has gotten close to supportive and stable housing, but roadblocks keep getting in her way.

There’s an election coming up fast in Oregon. Keep an eye on our opinion page as letters and columns come in with recommendations on who and what to support in May 21.

Quote of the Week

“I haven’t had the time to work on me. It’s all on me. It’s all so much for one person.”
