Two Redmond residents were arrested March 30 and charged with stealing a vehicle from the city of Redmond.
James Ayers, 32, was charged with two counts of both felony attempt to elude and reckless driving. Ayers was also charged with counts of unauthorized use of a vehicle, reckless endangering, and more.
Brittany Davis, 33, also of Redmond, was charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle.
According to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, about 10:20 a.m. on Saturday, March 30 law enforcement was searching for an SUV that had been stolen from the City of Redmond earlier that morning. A deputy located the vehicle, a 2003 Dodge Durango, in the area of SE 10th and E Highway 126 in Redmond but the suspect drove off and sped away onto vacant land north of Highway 126.
A few hours later, police received a tip that the stolen vehicle was seen on Alpine Lane in Alfalfa. DCSO and Oregon State Police responded to the area and again saw the vehicle, but the driver once again fled and deputies lost sight of the vehicle on Alfalfa Mkt. Rd. At approximately 2:00 p.m. another deputy saw the vehicle turn off of Powell Butte Highway onto Morrill Rd and located the vehicle — unoccupied — about a half mile north of Powell Butte Highway.
Police brought a K9 officer to the scene and began tracking the two subjects. At approximately 2:55 p.m. both Ayers and Davis were found about a mile from where they left the vehicle. Both were arrested Ayers and Davis without incident and taken to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Jail.
