Redmond man killed in five-vehicle crash north of Terrebonne

A Redmond man was killed in a crash on Highway 97 in Jefferson County north of Terrebonne after two commercial motor vehicles collided while driving Feb. 19 on the icy road, Oregon State Police said in a release Tuesday.
Jose Refugio Gamboa-Lupercio, 57, of Redmond died at scene.
Oregon State Police responded to the crash at about 4:16 a.m. on Highway 97 after a commercial truck rear-ended a second truck. The crash caused one of the vehicles to slide sideways into the northbound lanes, where it crashed into a red Toyota Tacoma driven by Felipe Gamboa-Lupercio, 55, of Terrebonne, and a white Toyota Tacoma driven by Timothy Fuzi, 52, of Terrebonne.
A northbound GMC Sierra driven by James Johnson, 60, of Terrebonne then also crashed into both Tacomas, the release said. The drivers of the commercial vehicles, Mark Williams, 64, of Hood River and Corey Heikkila, 41, of Portland, and the drivers of the Sierra and the white Tacoma were all uninjured in the crash.
Felipe Gamboa-Lupercio and his passenger, Genaro Gamboa-Lupercio, 62, of Redmond, were also uninjured in the crash, the release said. Jose Refugio Gamboa-Lupercio died.
Highway 97 was impacted for about five hours while police investigated the crash.
