My name is Trevor Johnson, and I am proud to represent the Redmond Pride committee. It’s with great excitement that I share this column with our community members to shed light on our upcoming Pride social gathering. First and foremost, allow me to provide some background on the Redmond Pride committee. Established in the spring of 2023, our committee’s mission is to unify diversity and create safe spaces for the 2SLGBTQ+ community in Redmond.
In June 2023, we celebrated a significant milestone by hosting our inaugural Pride events at The Doghouse Brewyard, 827 SW Glacier Ave. The turnout was overwhelming, with more than 75 attendees joining us for a day filled with joy and acceptance. Our event showcased talented performers from across the Central Oregon region, amplifying the voices of our vibrant community.
As we continue to establish ourselves within the Redmond community, our budget relies heavily on donations. We are currently in the process of obtaining a nonprofit license, which will enable us to accept larger sponsorships and funding to support future Pride events in Redmond. Despite the financial challenges, our commitment to fostering inclusivity remains unwavering.
Looking ahead, we are thrilled to announce a lineup of social events leading up to June’s 2 annual Gaymosa Pride festivities. On Sunday, Feb. 25, from 6-7:30 p.m., at The Doghouse Brewyard we will be hosting a gay social event featuring Cards Against Humanity and a raffle. The proceeds generated from this event will contribute to fundraising efforts for June’s upcoming Pride festival. This event is open to individuals aged 21 and over, with alcohol available for purchase and no admission fee required.
We are eagerly anticipating a prideful 2024 in our thriving community of Redmond. However, none of this would be possible without the support of dedicated volunteers, sponsors, and individuals who share our vision of equality and inclusion. If you are interested in contributing to our endeavors, whether through volunteering, sponsoring, or simply being a part of our community, we encourage you to reach out to us via email at rdmprideevents@gmail.com.
In closing, on behalf of the Redmond Pride committee, I extend my sincerest gratitude to all those who have supported us thus far. Together, we will continue to create spaces where everyone can feel seen, heard, and celebrated for who they are. Let’s make 2024 a year of unity, acceptance, and love in Redmond.
