- Doggievilla Ranch is operated by Trudy Gardner and Larry Johnson. The business hosts dogs overnight.
Next time you head out of town on a trip, Trudy Gardner hopes you consider treating your dog to a vacation of its own.
Along with her partner Larry Johnson, Gardner recently opened the Doggievilla Dog Resort at 223 O’Neil Way in northwest Redmond, near the intersection of U.S. Highway 97.
Gardner describes the new business as a “vacation destination” for your canine companion, where they can have a slumber party with like-minded pooches while under human supervision. The cost is $70 a night, which includes food, medication and one-on-one attention.
According to Gardner, Doggievilla includes lots of outdoor space, with a “dog beach,” small pools, a sand pit, wood chip area and play equipment. The dogs are never locked up and there are no cages, though dogs that prefer to sleep in crates will have access to them. They will have both indoor and outdoor space.
It also includes space for dogs to “chill alone” in “a calm environment with calming music and dimmed lights.”
Gardner, originally from Australia, first came to the U.S. to chase a career in television. She’s always been a dog lover since she was young and made a mid-career change to merge her business with her passion. For years, Gardner has been training and boarding dogs in Deschutes County. Most of the work is done on “the ranch,” where she conducts much of her training activities.
Doggievilla, on the other hand, will be limited to just socialized dogs who have been reviewed by her crew to make sure they are the right fit and not aggressive. Gardner said they will limit the number of dogs to just 15 a night.
