From the editor’s desk: All kinds of tires

School is back in session in Redmond, with students from kindergarten to high school answering the bell this week. We will have a recap of all the changes and upgrades to local schools in our next edition.

The talk of the town this week has been a new Les Schwab tire shop under construction off Highway 97. The longtime Central Oregon-based company is adding to its north Redmond store, meaning that Redmond will become a two-Schwab town.

Facebook fans are also excited for a motocross facility approved by Deschutes County last week. If you’re a motorcycle rider and a military veteran, you may want to swing by the Redmond Hospice on Saturday as the 14th annual Tribute to Fallen Soldiers ride rolls through town and leaves a wreath in Redmond.

In that same vein, Sept. 11 is Patriot Day. Acknowledge and assist first Responders on Monday, 9/11 by helping the Flag City USA team place American flags around town. Flags go out at 6 a.m. from Redmond Post Office parking lot and team retrieval at 6 p.m. Wear walking shoes and gloves.

People are still talking about celebrity chef Guy Fieri blowing through Redmond last year to film some stories for his Food Network show “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.” His visit to Grace and Hammer Pizzeria aired Aug. 25 while his stop at Feast ran the week after. A cool showcase of Redmond’s stellar restaurant scene.

Stop down and see us on Friday, Sept. 15 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. as we’ll be hosting the Redmond Chamber of Commerce coffee clatter. It’s a fun chance to check in with readers and our fellow members of the business community. We’ll have some hot coffee and some sweet sweets for you if you stop by 361 SW 6th St., next to the Odem Theater. Hope to see you there.
