K-9 demonstrations are a popular part of National Night Out.

The Redmond Police Department’s National Night Out community building event is set for Aug. 1 at Centennial Park in downtown Redmond from 6-8 p.m.

Meant to promote building relationships between the Redmond PD and the community they serve, residents can meet local officers while taking part in various family-friendly activities, including the Dunk-a-Cop tank.

Other planned events include K-9 demos, face painting, bouncy houses, activity booths and a donut eating contest.  Police equipment will be on display and child-centered activities will include bouncy houses, face painting and the Kiwanis cornhole game.

“National Night Out is a great opportunity for people of all ages to meet the folks at Redmond PD,” Mayor Ed Fitch said in a press release. “It’s a chance to make connections, make friends, and enjoy a summer night.”

Redmond Kiwanis, including chair Ron Hagen, is contributing to the effort.

The local event began in 2018 and has drawn nearly 2,000 participants.

A free, family friendly event, attendees can also beat the heat by grabbing a sno-cone and enjoy barbecue accompanied by live music from Precious Byrd. Children will be able to enjoy the nearby Centennial Park splash pad throughout the event.
