Letter: The ballad of Rocky Raccoon

Published 12:45 am Monday, June 26, 2023

Rocky Raccoon has just met his doom, only to find Mayor Ed’s doorstep.

They didn’t sign their name, so who was to blame?

A cowardly crime while we all slept.

Council Clifford was slurred, the lines they were blurred; pure racial hate was intended.

The citizens cried: “We’re all asking, why? Will our city ever be mended?”

Let’s start with a thought, with what we’re all taught … treat others as you’d like to be treated.

Respect for yourself and other folks, too, so crimes like this won’t be repeated.

Your opinion’s ok, but watch what you say, to others your words might be hateful.

Our kids they hear all, the bad names we call; it’s not fair to make them ungrateful.

Your religion is fine, but don’t draw the line, consider that others have justice.

They deserve our respect, is that not correct? God made us all; we should trust this.

So Rocky lives on, he’s really not gone, our city can be an example.

Our differences abound, but what have we found, an answer that might just be ample.

Respect for ourselves and other folks, too, will lead us to finding solutions.

So let’s make a vow, right here and right now, to stop all the hateful pollution. Yeah!
