- A building collapsed and was destroyed after a fire ripped through it June 21 in Redmond.
A fire destroyed a building that was under construction near the intersection of SW Veterans Way and SW Lake Road in Redmond on Wednesday.
According to Redmond Fire & Rescue, callers about 4 p.m. on June 21 alerted emergency dispatch to the blaze. By the time fire crews responded, the blaze had already spread to the roof of the building. Shortly after crews arrived, the roof of the building collapsed. Soon after the exterior walls collapsed as well.
No one was injured. The fire was contained and did not spread to nearby structures.
According to Tom Mooney, Redmond fire marshal, the building could some day have been used as a warehouse with some office space, but at the time of the fire it was unoccupied and unfinished when the fire started. According to Redmond Fire & Rescue, “wooden structural members were still fully exposed, allowing the fire to spread rapidly through the building.”
As of Thursday, the cause of the fire was undetermined and under investigation. Investigators were at the site of the blaze conducting interviews and processing the scene.
