- No one was left out of the kickball games today. With field three's accommodations, everyone was able to participate.
One of the most fun spectator sporting events in Redmond is going to watch the school district’s Unified sports teams take to the fields and courts of the city. In summer, you get to be outdoors. And kickball was the game this season. Check out photos of all the smiling faces and read the story to put a smile on your own face.
How about some more good news? Petersen Rock Garden, a popular roadside attraction outside Redmond that fell on hard times, has been spruced up and reopened to the public. Make a stop next time your driving to or from Bend.
We’ve also got a piece about Mike Corwin, a local baseball umpire celebrating 50 years of calling balls and strikes. When he started, umpires wore ties and there was no such thing as a designated hitter. Even in America’s Pastime, 50 years can see a lot of changes.
We’ve added Snowden intern Janea Melido to our team. I hope you read her column about why she got interested in journalism. It’s a good reminder about all the different ways people are drawn to the industry and what folks want to do with their lives.
Janea has been doing great work for the paper, as you can tell by all of her recent bylines.
It’s part of our duty to warn readers about problems and impending dangers, too. It’s key to remember that all this great, dry weather puts us back into fire season. Starting June 1, a burn ban is in effect in Redmond and in Deschutes, Crook and Jefferson counties.
Here’s a disturbing story. A Redmond man was arrested in Idaho and charged with sexually abusing a dog and and possessing material related to child sexual abuse. Make sure you read this and keep your family safe.
