Letter: Oppose Central Oregon gas pipeline expansion
Published 12:45 am Tuesday, May 23, 2023
Gas Transmission Northwest is seeking approval from FERC to increase the capacity of its 1,354-mile fracked gas pipeline that runs right through Central Oregon.
FERC estimates the expansion will result in 3.24 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually, even without considering the upstream methane leakage, which is the same annual carbon pollution as eight new gas-fired power plants.
This project is inconsistent with Oregon’s efforts to rapidly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and I therefore ask you to please join Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley in calling on FERC to deny the GTN Xpress project.
