Letter: Claridge for library district board

As a former member and past president of the Deschutes Public Library District Board, I had the pleasure of working with Cynthia Claridge when she joined the board in 2018. Cynthia is an ardent advocate for the Redmond area (District Zone 1) while also recognizing the need for compromise and collaboration with her fellow board members to ensure top-notch library services are provided throughout Deschutes County.

The board is now overseeing the implementation of the library bond passed by voters in 2020. Redmond will benefit greatly from a new library currently under construction on the site of the previous library located in the old Jessie Hill School building. It was simply not financially feasible to remodel that building, but Cynthia recognized its historical significance to many local residents. At her urging, the consultant who is selecting the artwork for the library is working with the Redmond Historical Commission to acquire photos of Redmond and the school to be placed on the walls of the new building.
As a result, Redmond will receive a brand new, state-of-the-art library which will not only be a tremendous community resource but will also acknowledge the historical nature of the building it replaces.
I urge you to vote for Cynthia Claridge so she can continue the great work she has done as a Deschutes Public Library District Board member.
