Foundational knowledge needn’t be boring, teaching the basics can be engaging, and mastery can be rewarding. A solid foundation in the basics provides the essentials necessary to learn more advanced skills and knowledge. We must walk before we can run.
To suggest any candidate is free from “agendas” is disingenuous. I have an agenda, as do the other candidates. Labeling an agenda “social”, or “political” neither gives nor takes away from its relative credibility. Each agenda should be evaluated based upon its true merits. I encourage everyone to vote, but please be informed of what your candidate stands for. If you have uncertainty, ask them for clarification.
My platform is based on four simple principles: transparency, focus, critical thinking skills and reduced screen time. Here I am going to explore only FOCUS, as I think it is the most essential element to our success.

We should focus on unifying topics of academic achievement rather than the social issues that divide us.
The division we are experiencing is driving the increase in behavioral issues and nationwide decline in academic achievement and skills proficiency. Building a solid foundation creates life-long learners and benefits everyone.
Our current focus on the ‘sameness of outcome’ is being used to justify and in many cases codify the application of inequality. Everyone, no matter your group, affiliation or identity should have equal access to the toolbox of opportunities that will allow success in our schools. Everyone should be granted the agency to make their own decisions, and reap the rewards, or suffer the consequences of those decisions.
As a Redmond School Board member, I promise to: Demonstrate transparency in process (on the board and in our schools). Focus on unifying topics of academic achievement. Emphasize the development of critical thinking skills in our students. Consistently encourage behaviors that lead to reduced screen time and build real, authentic relationships.
Please Vote Eric Lea for Redmond School Board Position #1.
