Spokesman’s ‘Chuck of the Week’ contest emerges from hibneration

- The first ever Redmond Spokesman "Chuck of the Week" was Rocky, who appeared in the May 31, 2022 edition. The summer-long contest returns this year.
We’re approaching the start of rockchuck season once again in Redmond, that time of year that the marmots poke their heads out of seemingly every crack and crevice in town.
The little buggers hibernate for roughly eight months a year, which makes their annual return a welcome surprise for Redmond residents as well as a harbinger of warmer days.
To help celebrate, send a photo of your back yard/neighborhood/local rockchuck, and if it’s chosen as the “Chuck of the Week,” you can win prizes and prestige. We’ll also get to see photos of a bunch of cute little buggers in each week’s paper — making winners of all us.
Send a photo of your rockchuck along with their assumed name and the general location where you snapped the photo, and maybe a little bit about your captured chuck’s personality. If your chuck is chosen as the “Chuck of the Week,” their photo will be printed in that week’s Spokesman and you’ll receive a free one-year subscription to the paper.
Email your photo and information to news@redmondspokesman.com for consideration. And check out future summer editions of the paper for a peek at your favorite furry neighbors.
