Another week, another truckload of news in the Redmond Spokesman.

One thread that we will likely be pulling on for months to come is the city starting to create regulations for where homeless people can — and cannot — sleep. It took our southern neighbors down Highway 97 roughly nine months to craft their rules, so it’s not something that is likely to be done anytime soon. Councilors are expected to chat about it at their Feb. 28 meeting, but expect that details won’t be ironed out for awhile.

Reporter Nick Rosenberger attended Thursday night’s open house for members of the public interested in contributing their design ideas for the Redmond police station. One big question, yet to be answered, is “What happens to the old station?” Now is the time to let your voice be heard on that issue, and how you want the new station north of downtown to look.

A reminder to check out our opinion page each week and read the submission online at www.redmondspokesman.com/opinion.

Columns and letters on there now range from Black History Month to homelessness to marijuana, marijuana and marijuana. Another  reminder that we welcome all kinds of thoughts from the community on that page and online. If you agree or disagree with those opinions, send me an email at ttrainor@redmondspokesman.com or call 541-548-3203.

In this upcoming edition, we’ve got stories about the Redmond boys basketball gearing up for a postseason run, and about two star skiers taking to the slopes next weekend for the state championships. We’ve also got reminders about a fast-approaching deadline to file for the May election. And we’ve got an election coming even sooner for a group of residents in Terrebonne, as they decide the future of their sewage system.

Thanks to your support, we’re seeing strong subscription growth, but we need to keep that momentum growing in order to pay for more staff and put out a better product each and every week.

Call 541-923-1370 or go to redmondspokesman.com and we’ll get you signed up at an affordable price. That’s without a doubt the best way to support our work and get informed about your community.
