Bar food: General Duffy’s, High Desert Music Hall add new options

General Duffy's hosted the grand opening of their Annex Kitchen on Feb. 1 in Redmond. The restaurant serves bar food, sandwiches and brunch.

Two of Redmond’s busiest live venues, already surrounded by mobile vendors, are adding additional food options.

General Duffy’s Waterhole opened its new Annex Kitchen on Feb. 1. The new restaurant is located at 413 SW Glacier Ave., just south of the main Duffy’s entrance.

The Annex’s offerings range from a $17 steak sandwich to appetizers like buffalo wings. There is also a brunch menu that serves biscuits and gravy, chicken-fried steak and more.

Mariah Larson, executive chef of the Annex Kitchen, said she ran a food truck called Mom’s Kitchen for the last couple years but was ready for a bigger space.

A big part of Larson’s passion for cooking came from her father, who raised her as a single parent.

“My recipes come from my dad,” Larson said. “Cooking and fishing was how we bonded.”

General Duffy’s, she said, gave her full creative license to experiment and try new things. While she wants to serve the kind of food people would find at their mother’s house, she’s hoping to experiment a bit with their menu.

The Annex’s hours are Monday-Tuesday from 4-9 p.m., Wednesday-Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday-Sunday.

Just a few blocks over, High Desert Music Hall is upping its food game as well.

Abe’s Capanna’s Detroit Deep Dish Pizza will move into its Backline Lounge space, located at 818 SW Forest Ave.

Abe’s will start out with hours of Monday-Thursday from 4-9 p.m., Friday-Saturday from noon to 9 p.m. and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Hours may expand in the future, especially on weekends when crowds pack the hall for a big show.

The lounge space at High Desert will now offer everything from the Detroit-style pizza to gluten-free and meat-free options. Patrons can also take advantage of a full bar that includes craft sodas, beer, wine, cider and mixed drinks. Doordash delivery is also available.

The live music venue already has three food trucks outside its location, ranging from Mexican food to Greek gyros. But with Abe’s now operating in the lounge space, it will be easier for concertgoers to eat inside.
