College women’s wrestling: Bell captures lone victory at Oregon Classic

The Eastern Oregon University women’s wrestling team had a busy weekend, sending a group of wrestlers to the Oregon Classic in Redmond while other wrestlers competed at the York University Duals in Nebraska.

The Mountaineers went 1-5 on the day at the Oregon Classic on Saturday, Jan. 14, as Shelby Bell captured the team’s lone victory.

At the 101-109 division, Bell defeated Isabella Schultz of Southwestern Oregon Community College by a 17-12 fall. Bell finished the day 1-1, losing to Grays Harbor’s Aliya Hammons by fall.

At 143, Madelyn Mazemke lost to Attalia Cano of Umpqua Community College and Analeese Mcallister of Pacific University.

Rosa Ramirez rounded out Eastern Oregon’s efforts at 155, dropping both her bouts. Ramirez was bested by Christa Sindel of Southwestern Oregon Community College and Marie Marbet of Washington State.

Coming off the Oregon Classic, Eastern Oregon is set to host Linfield for a dual on Jan. 29. The wrestling is slated to begin at 1 p.m. at Quinn Coliseum.
