Happy New Year’s Eve! I hope you are enjoying all the good things the holiday season brings, and I hope you didn’t  have to travel too far to be with your loved ones.

We have a lot of news for you in our last edition of 2022, which came out last week. We tallied up the votes for our “Stories of the Year,” which allows us to look back and think forward about the people, places and things that will personify 2022 in our city. I don’t want to give away everything, but many of issues are clear and obvious — growth, housing, political change, the throwing off of pandemic restrictions.

I also got to sit down with George Endicott to profile the outgoing mayor that has personified Redmond to so many for so long. Endicott was born here, but life took him all over — a military brat childhood, a Purple Heart in Vietnam, posts at NATO Headquarters and the Pentagon. All that brought him back to Redmond for his retirement, where he spent 14 years helping to run the city. This week we will profile longtime city councilor Jay Patrick, who has been a part of city government nearly twice as long.

It definitely seems like the end of an era — and the beginning of a new one — in Redmond government.

Other work we did this week include two very serious collisions involved vehicles and pedestrians in Redmond, one of which is confirmed as fatal, the other of which left a person gravely injured and police are requesting additional information. Police are also requesting information on this man, who is accused of sexually assaulting women in Bend and has been known to frequent bars in Redmond. Police believe there may be more victims.
