Greetings from a still-snowy Redmond! I hope all your Christmas shopping is done and only the fun parties are left to go.
Our staffers are out today snapping photos and chatting with volunteers at Wreaths Across America events across the region, which includes cemeteries in Redmond, Terrebonne, Powell Butte and more. The annual event works to lay a holiday wreath on the grave of every American veteran. Keep an eye out at redmondspokesman.com for photos and stories from the event.

Stories this week at the Spokesman includes check-ins with a few local nonprofits. Those include the Redmond Community Concert Association and the Opportunity Foundation. The Opportunity Foundation does many things in the community, but one piece is working to connect folks with disabilities to meaningful employment. I hope you take time to read about Chase Olsen and all the good work he’s doing.
“I could say I’m disabled, but these folks don’t look at me that way. I come to work. I bust my ass just like the rest of them,” says Olsen.
It always seems appropriate this time of year to find the folks who are doing good work and bringing joy to the community. We’ve got a couple other stories like that planned, including letters (and drawings!) for Santa from local elementary students, as well as a former Nashville country artist who now plays the piano at the Redmond Senior Center. Be sure to pick up a copy or call 541-923-1370 and we’ll get a paper sent to you every week — or digitally if you prefer.

We are also working on our “Stories of the Year” feature for our final edition of 2022. If you’ve got some thoughts on what issues, accomplishments, controversies and changes stand out, send an email to me at ttrainor@redmondspokesman.com. I’ll be compiling votes and chatting with movers-and-shakers about what they think is most important for 2022 in Redmond.

News gathering is a community endeavor and we could not do this without you. Call 541-923-1370 and we’ll get you subscribed, which is the best way to support our work. A paper delivered to your home each week is just $51 a year. That’s an incredible bargain that helps support local journalism that tells the story of your community.
To reach our newsroom, stop by our office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. We are located at 361 SW Sixth. Call us anytime at 541-548-3203 or email news@redmondspokesman.com.
