The holiday season is a fun time to be a community news reporter.

Staffers are heading out today to snap photos and chat with folks at the Annual Festival of Trees, Hospice of Redmond’s biggest fundraiser of the year — and one of the largest in Central Oregon. Hope you make it out there to attend.  If you can’t, there are tons of other options, including the Holiday Village Market at Centennial Park, which is open both Dec. 3 and Dec. 10. Wild Ride Brewing is hosting a Holiday Sip n’ ShopThe Redmond Community Choir is back too, performing in public for the first time since the pandemic on Sunday, Dec. 11. You’ll definitely want to attend to get in the holiday spirit.

But there’s other news this month, too. In fact it’s the last month for the former Jessie Hill School turned Redmond library. Crews plan to demolish it in January, move the library’s media to a temporary location for nearly two years, and rebuild a bigger and better library at the Jessie Hill location. It’s a lot of big change and sad to see a beloved building come down, but the new library sure does look like a beauty, with lots of great amenities heading our way.

Reporter Nick Rosenberger spent some time with the Redmond Toastmasters this week and turned out a fun feature on how the club helps people get more comfortable sharing their stories and speaking in front of others. The Toastmasters are looking for more members, too — so try them out if you feel like the added speaking confidence could help your career or your relationships.

There’s lots more, including a check in on completed construction at Odem Medo and Canal, a new cookie company, certified Deschutes County election results and bad drought news.

We always include lots of community news, too — like a new food donation record for Kiwanis and awards for a local Habitat for Humanity project.
